Il Personale è Politico | Il Politico è Personale

The group show, curated by Tiziano Tancredi, imagines an artistic declination of the concept of complexity, a word that appears as one of the subtitles of INTERESSE GENERALE, the 21st national congress of the Spi-Cgil at Fiera di Verona in which is held. It does so in at least two ways :

1. by selecting four artists* who create works that differ in their formal and stylistic outcomes, ranging from ‘pure’ figurative (Collettivo FX) to figurative tending towards the abstract (Verdiana Bove), from the stylised to the symbolic (Guerrilla Spam), and finally to an aesthetic derived from video games (Federica Di Pietrantonio);

2. by identifying in the research of Verdiana Bove and Federica di Pietrantonio a semantic horizon that feeds on personal, intimate, private archives, the fruit of real memories or virtual experiences, and in the practices of Collettivo FX and Guerrilla Spam a more markedly political connotation that feeds on ideas that have emerged in workshops, debates and confrontations, in public and non-public space, with the inhabitants of a given territory.

In fact, the title IL PERSONALE È POLITICO | IL POLITICO È PERSONALE , referring in the first part to the famous feminist slogan of the 1970s coined by Carol Hanisch, and in the second part to its syntactical inversion, but not to its meaning, intends to emphasise how the Personal is Political and the Political is Personal, or how the two semantic planes are in a certain sense interchangeable, in the sense that they are equally necessary in analysing the reality in which we live and the world of which we are part. Every personal choice in our lives contributes to the construction of our political approach to reality, just as the political, public dimension affects our personal, everyday life, in a fruitful multilateral handover and interchange of new perspectives of meaning.

On the whole, we are all personal and political, political and personal.
