Shadow of Ego

press release | comunicato stampa

NP ArtLab is pleased to present SHADOW OF EGO, a solo exhibition by Wiktoria Kieniksman (*1998), a Polish artist who trained in Kraków.
From September 24 to November 4, the gallery will host the artistic practice of this young artist, featured through paintings and drawings on canvas that depict herself and her own experiences without filters, with courage and integrity.
“One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.”
(C.G. Jung)
This artistic research explores the boundary zone between consciousness and the unconscious, seeking to make visible the perpetual conflict between the Ego and the Shadow, according to the definitions of Carl Gustav Jung’s analytical psychology.
The Ego is the center of the conscious mind, managing everyday reality and pursuing control, coherence, morality, and social acceptance. Yet, every act of affirmation by the Ego generates, by contrast, a Shadow: an accumulation of everything the Ego refuses to see in itself—such as repressed trauma, but also vital energy, pure passion, and instinctive truth.
It is within this process that Wiktoria’s practice develops.
