CLASH Rome Berlin
CLASH is an exhibition format connecting artists and independent art spaces from different cities and countries. Previous editions have brought together Berlin, Madrid and Valencia. For its sixth edition, CLASH connects BcmA, an independent project space from Berlin, with Studio ORMA, an independent exhibition space and curatorial project in Rome. Both spaces share an interest in following what is happening in the art world around them.
Looking for what feels relevant and inspiring today. At the core of CLASH is the idea that the best way to discover art is still to go out and encounter it directly: to travel, meet people, enter unfamiliar places and find things you would probably never come across through the usual channels. At a time when much of what we see has already been selected and filtered for us, CLASH chooses direct exchange instead. The artists make the journey themselves, bring their works with them and spend time in the city. For the Rome exhibition, Wolfgang Flad, Jeroen Cremers and Jay Gard (members of BcmA Berlin team) invited the three Italian artists Letizia Scarpello, Gioia Pompeo and Gina Babić to join the exhibition.
Berlin and Rome could hardly be more different. Berlin is rough, fragmented and shaped by destruction and reconstruction; Rome by history, continuity and the physical presence of the past. What happens when these different perspectives meet is deliberately left open. CLASH is a reason to move, look more closely and meet people beyond the familiar. Travelling becomes a way of building your own knowledge, presenting your work in a new environment and allowing it to interact with that environment. Step away from the sofa, go far and stay curious!
