CORREVA L’ANNO DEL CAVALLO

Irene Baita (Mantova, 1999) è un’artista visiva e performer attiva tra Ferrara e Bologna. La sua pratica nasce dalla scultura, passa attraverso la performance e, in questa occasione, incontra il disegno. Il suo lavoro continua a muoversi attorno al corpo e al modo in cui questo abita gli spazi, creando relazioni affettive, culturali e quotidiane.
Per questa mostra Irene esercita una pratica che si costruisce nel dialogo con lo spazio del bar e con la sua storia, passata e presente. Un luogo che un tempo ospitava le stalle del palazzo accanto e che oggi si definisce attraverso chi lo attraversa quotidianamente — chi lavora, chi si ferma, chi ritorna. Tra queste stratificazioni, il lavoro di Irene che tiene conto della storia del bar e della sua architettura, si inserisce come una forma di ascolto dello spazio e delle sue trasformazioni, restituendo presenze che nascono proprio dall’ intreccio tra memoria e vita quotidiana.
Nasce così una serie di ritratti e schizzi incorniciati in cui ritorna sempre una staffa per cavalli, oggetto-simbolo che diventa quasi un piccolo talismano dello spazio. Dai suoi contorni affiorano personaggi diversi — strani, eleganti, buffi o malinconici — e il loro susseguirsi rivela la natura seriale del gesto: l’artista sembra inseguire il desiderio di trattenere quante più presenze possibili, un’attitudine che si riflette nella scelta dei soggetti, che dal quotidiano del bar — persone che lo attraversano, vi lavorano o semplicemente lo abitano — scivolano gradualmente verso presenze inattese, spostando progressivamente il disegno dal ritratto del quotidiano a una dimensione più libera, in cui realtà e invenzione si sovrappongono.

Irene Baita (Mantova, 1999) is a visual artist and performer working between Ferrara and Bologna. Her practice originates in sculpture, moves through performance, and, on this occasion, encounters drawing. Her work continues to revolve around the body and the ways it inhabits spaces, creating affective, cultural, and everyday relationships.
For this exhibition, Irene engages in a practice shaped through dialogue with the bar space and its past and present history. A place that once housed the stables of the adjacent palace and that today is defined by those who pass through it every day — those who work there, stop by, or return. Within these layered histories, Irene’s work, which takes into account both the bar’s history and its architecture, inserts itself as a form of listening to the space and its transformations, giving back presences that emerge precisely from the intertwining of memory and everyday life.
This process gives rise to a series of framed portraits and sketches in which a horse stirrup repeatedly appears — a symbolic object that becomes almost a small talisman of the space. From its contours, different characters emerge — strange, elegant, amusing, or melancholic — and their succession reveals the serial nature of the gesture: the artist seems to pursue the desire to retain as many presences as possible. This attitude is reflected in the choice of subjects, which gradually shift from the everyday life of the bar — people who pass through it, work there, or simply inhabit it — toward unexpected figures, progressively moving the drawings away from the portrait of daily life and into a freer dimension, where reality and invention overlap.
