LISA WANG – PHILIA
solo exhibition + book presentation
from the Greek ϕιλία
love, friendship, trend, affinity
An event to explore the less-explored territories of identity, desire and representation. With Philia, New York artist and photographer Lisa Wang has created a visual and conceptual atlas of paraphilias, where each letter of the alphabet corresponds to a form of unconventional pleasure.
At 7 p.m. the mixed media exhibition of Philia will begin.
Lisa Wang’s images give shape to a visual taxonomy of paraphilias, organized in alphabetical order, that mixes psychological research, real life experience and photographic staging.
“PHILIA was born from a meeting in NYC with a young photographic artist in a Manhattan bar. Introduced to me by the great Tom Banger, Lisa showed me this indexing work, the result of an in-depth analysis that combined her past with her expressive attitude, channeling all the “perversions” encountered along her path. I immediately understood that it was an artistic project that could speak on a universal level, even though it started from an individual point of view, because Lisa Wang’s image is clear, mature, aware and attentive to detail. From that meeting a book was born, an alphabetical and photographic code that bears the name of the project itself.”
Litostudio is honored to present the first solo exhibition of the American artist in Italy. Milan will finally be able to discover Lisa’s talent, with an exhibition of different techniques that are able to interact with each other, such as photography, industrial installation and the practice of kinbaku.
