Sometimes I just like to hear myself talk.

Spazio In Situ participates in UNAROMA OFF—a project curated by Luca Lo Pinto and Cristiana Perrella for MACRO—Museum of Contemporary Art of Rome—presenting Sometimes I just like to hear myself talk, a group exhibition by artists Nicola Giammaria Gobbetto, Luca Staccioli, and Cassidy Toner, curated by AnnaKarina.
In this context, which connects independent realities and museum institutions, In Situ commissions the cat AnnaKarina as curator, introducing an additional point of view into the dialogue between artist, space, and institution. The project was born from the need to rethink the curatorial gesture, shifting it from a rational and rhetorical level to a perceptive and intuitive one. The idea of entrusting the selection of works to a real cat introduces a non-anthropocentric dimension to the construction of the exhibition, questioning the mechanisms of choice, judgment, and sensitivity inherent in the contemporary art system. The figure of the cat is intended as an ironic element but also as an alternative curatorial entity: an observer with different parameters of attention and selection. The exhibition is constructed around its behavior, its mechanisms of attraction, its movements in space, generating a short circuit of roles between animal and human, curator and artist. The latter is therefore a guest in a space that has the special perspective of the animal. It is through the cat’s point of view that the exhibition is conceived. The cat – both domestic and digital presence, cute and grumpy creature, meme image and icon of the internet, it takes on a central role within the exhibition, influencing both its form and the visitor experience. The choice of artists was the result of interaction between the In Situ team and the cat itself, in a role-playing game that deliberately plays with established hierarchies. The works on display also share a particular relationship with space, activating new perspectives and acting on the gaze itself. The curatorial process becomes visible material in the exhibition, emphasizing the curatorial intervention as an essential part of the project presented.
