Trames èmotionnelles

NM Contemporary is glad to present « Trames émotionnelles » (Emotional threads) the first solo show of Roberto Maria Lino in the Principality of Monaco.
The exhibition includes a selection of works executed during the artist’s residence at the Ateliers du Quai under the Direction of Cultural Affairs in Monaco in 2024.
In the first room are on display the series « Sutura », « Spolia » and « Untitled red monochromes ». The practice of Lino founds his mantra in the gesture of sewing applied to fabrics belonging to the family environment but also to strangers and to the use of natural pigments obtained from avocado, tea, beetroot and curcuma.
As a poet observes men and nature and tells their emotional bonds, Lino sews, bringing together remnants of those stories with needle and thread in a new harmonious narrative.
For the occasion the artist executed a wall painting to frame the works while two columns of fabric welcome the viewer and move lightly as he passes.
Again a remnant of fabric invites the viewer to enter the second room entitled « Mare cinereo » (Ashen Sea) where Lino covered the walls with the same fabrics used in the execution of the paintings.
The environment evokes a mother’s womb, a return to primordial sensations, to the water origin of life. The Neapolitan artist has a very strong relationship with the sea which is his source of inspiration and his confidant. The sewing gesture here is even more tantric. The fabrics dyed with natural pigments and immersed in the sea are meticulously sewn to evoke natural forms, both marine and human, and resonate with the sweet and powerful verses of the poet Ada Negri which inspired this series, finding a new «salvific» balance.
