ALPHABET INTIME
A solo show by
ALFREDO RAPETTI MOGOL
On the occasion of Monaco Art Week, NM Contemporary is pleased to open the solo show by Alfredo Rapetti Mogol entitled « Alphabet intime » (Private alphabet).
The exhibition displays a selection of recent works executed on canvas, on lead, on paper as well as marble sculptures, retracing the main themes of the artist’s research focused on
writing.
First and foremost, writing as a gesture and emotional rhythm in the works of the series
“Letters” performed since the early years of his career with the gesture of impuntura, a
technique of on canvas.
Words free themselves from the literal signifier and become an emotional score engraved in acrylic and evocative of human experience.
Secondly, writing as a free gesture using chalk on paper and a harmonious gesture, illustrated by messages of resilience and empathy, in which the viewer is invited to rediscover themselves and their relationship with others. While the writing appears sweet yet decisive on paper, the chalk evokes firmness and instills courage; it becomes a memento in marble carvings and lead writings, calling the viewer to overcome the burden of existence by accepting imperfection, which becomes a regenerating source of life and overcoming weaknesses and fears in a society that demands ever more.
Rapetti Mogol spreads the message in every aspect of our lives, even intervening on mirrors and carpets. COM EST ELLE (Like Stars) is the invitation silkscreened on the mirror of the second room, addressed to those who want to look inside themselves. OU RST EPSF ROMD ARKN ESST OLIG HT (Our steps from darkness to light), the phrase in Italian, English and French on a carpet exposed vertically on a height of 3 metres and a half evokes that spiritual path,
The black white striped fabric resembles a piano keyboard but also Job’s ladder which in
Genesis 28:11-19 unites heaven and earth, with angels ascending and descending on it.
Alfredo Rapetti Mogol, was born in Milan in 1961 and his artistic training was influenced by the family cultural richness, where for generations music, literature and poetry were a constant presence. His maternal grandfather, Alfredo De Pedrini, President of the Association Graphic Arts of Milan, introduced him to the city’s artistic environment, helping him to
develop a passion for painting. The father, the famous lyricist Mogol, introduces him to the world of music and soonAlfredo establishes himself as a world famous lyricist, winning various Grammy Awards under the pseudonym of Cheope.
The talent of Rapetti Mogol extends well beyond music and leads the artist to assert himself
primarily as a painter. The success comes both at home and abroad: he exposes his works twice (2009 and 2011) at the Biennale in Venice and participates in numerous group and solo shows in museums and art galleries around the world.
He experimented with various styles of painting, resulting in an invitation in 1996 to join the studio of the artists Alessandro Algardi and Mario Arlati, and to share in their pictorial
research In the atelier in Via Nota, Rapetti worked intensely for four years, gradually coming to the conviction that he would have to unite his two greatest passions, writing and painting,
positing them as visualisations of the mental and psychological process With the aid of a special technique known as impuntura (stitching), the action of painting is fused with the act of writing,
and the words begin to be marked not just on paper, but also on canvas.
His work has aroused enormous interest and sparked off considerable debate, among critics ranging from Duccio Trombadori to Gianluca Ranzi, from Luciano Caprile to Maurizio Vanni
