Fox Hole

A practical guide for foxes
Step 1. Locate a dry, discreet place far from regular paths and far enough from other fox holes to avoid conflicts.
Step 2. Using your front paws, dig a narrow entrance first before widening the interior, the width of your body, not immediately visible from the outside.
Step 3. Dig the tunnel. Go 1 to 2 meters deep. Keep it winding, not straight. Push the loose dirt outside as you go.
Step 4. Hide a second exit under bushes or roots.
Step 5. At the end of the tunnel, widen it into a round chamber. About 50 cm across. Enough to curl up.
Step 6. Bring in dry grass, leaves, or fur only once the walls hold. Keep nesting material away from the entrance.
Step 7. For the first nights, sleep at the entrance. Pay attention.
Step 8. You can go deeper afterward.
Step 9. There will be damage after rains.
Step 10. After storms.
