OLD SNAG

The gallery is pleased to present Old Snag, the first solo exhibition by Norwegian artist Ingeborg Tysse, accompanied by a curatorial text by Caterina Avataneo.
Old Snag explores the fragile threshold between preservation and decay, reflecting on transformation, memory, and the eternal. The exhibition unfolds as a sculptural installation composed of new digital jaquard weavings and wooden sculptures integrating metal, textiles and found materials.
Drawing inspiration from the ecological concept of the “snag” — dead standing trees that sustain forest biodiversity — Tysse creates a synthetic ecosystem suspended between life and death, nature and construction, fiction and reality. Three dead cherry trees sourced from the area surrounding the gallery become the foundation for sculptural works inhabited by feathers, textiles, carved details, and hybrid organic forms.
Through fragmented collars, prosthetic adornments, and woven imagery inspired by bodily and root systems, the exhibition questions humanity’s desire to preserve, possess, and immortalize. Tysse transforms discarded and found materials into active carriers of memory, care, and ecological reflection, creating an immersive environment where opposites coexist in a continuous state of limbo.
