DAL VIVO

press release | comunicato stampa

Painting from life is an exercise in attention, but also in unpredictability. Between what the eye observes and what the hand reproduces, a space opens up in which time, gesture and perception intertwine.
Dal vivo, Bernardo Siciliano’s solo exhibition in Studio 3, brings together a series of portraits and paintings that emerge from a direct encounter with the subject. It is an exercise in observation in which the artist measures himself with the constant transformation of what lies before him, seeking to capture its distinctive features without being able to fully control the outcome.
In the text accompanying the exhibition, Emanuele Trevi draws on a reflection by Giacomo Leopardi. According to the poet, the portrait allows you to see a person “in an extraordinary way.” In Bernardo’s works, this possibility emerges from the tension between the precision of the gaze, the urgency of the gesture, and the uncertainty that accompanies every attempt at representation.
The works thus preserve the trace of an encounter, of a shared moment, and of that relationship between living beings which, as Trevi suggests, is an integral part of painting.
