THE ITALIAN ART GUIDE

non รจ una somma di fatti, ma un modo di vita

Umberto Di Marino gallery is pleased to announce non รจ una somma di fatti ma un modo di vita (not a sum of facts but a way of life), a group exhibition featuring Darren Almond, Isadora Neves Marques, Anri Sala, Alberto Tadiello, and Sergio Vega, which inaugurates a project connecting works from the Di Marino Collection with works by the galleryโ€™s artists. The selected works, chosen for their ability to open breaches and to escape mere conceptual illustration, resemble cracks through which light filters, fields of possibility and responsibility that emerge when something stops functioning. They are five suggestions moving along disjointed trajectories, leaving space for unbound and unexpected interpretations; unsettling the logics by which we define organic time, contiguous space, and values as universals.

Darren Almond suspends time, yet it does not truly stop, it jams and continues. The waterfall becomes a mineral of light, a liquid memory that returns instead of dissolving, attempting to capture the perception of the object as it persists even when it appears motionless.

Anri Sala approaches time as a viscous matter in which modernist space is immersed. Conceived as a rational machine, it becomes an organism that adapts, breathes, changes, and survives its eschatological function. Every reflection, every shadow is perhaps a deviation from a path that no longer maintains direction, producing new functions, imposing a different rhythm, and rewriting its context.

In Sergio Vegaโ€™s work, the burning Amazon forest melts the very imagery of paradise, catastrophe becomes entangled with beauty, and light becomes its conduit. What attracts us diverts us, forcing an ambiguous confrontation between the desire for contemplation and the awareness of disaster.

Isadora Neves Marques transforms transgenic seeds, protocols, UN documents, and colonial botanical illustrations into architectures of possibility, maps that do not guide but reveal the cracking of life within rigid modern coordinates.

These images are accompanied by the sound work of Alberto Tadiello, a vibration without conclusion, a sonic landscape that resists possession. The invisible pressure of space, liquefied light, and sonic hallucination create a mirage that is at once alluring and destabilizing.

Time, history, the sublime, life, sound, filtered through the fissures of a faulty narrative, become fields of possibility; not a sum of facts, but a convergence of deviations, of cracks, of unexpected possibilities, of failed predictions, of imaginative retro-projections that together construct a way of life.
