THE ITALIAN ART GUIDE

Summer Open Studios

The British School at Rome is delighted to present Summer Open Studios 2024, a three-days event dedicated to studio visits of artists in residence at the BSR.

The artists will be present with some of their work to answer visitors’ questions and share their research: Pierre-Olivier Demeule Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec, Harry de Vries National Art School (Sydney) Resident, Anne McCloy Ampersand Foundation Fellow, Ellis Moseley Helpmann Academy Resident, Tura Oliveira Abbey Scholar in Painting, Joe WhyteWilliam Fletcher Foundation Resident, Rafal Zajko Abbey Fellow in Painting.

The Summer Open Studios 2024 will be an opportunity to highlight some aspects of the research that underpins the artists’ work, including challenges that communities face to take care of their habitat; the Art of the Roman Empire and its subterranean origins; the tombstones of the last kings of Ireland at San Pietro in Montorio; the exploration of the character and of the light in Rome; the investigation of the fresco technique.

The event represents a different way of experiencing research in progress, that aims to give the audience a broader insight into the artists’ work, to discover their residency projects, their creative practices and, most importantly, to understand how a new environment, meetings and network with the local artistic community, can give rise to new experimentations.
