THE ITALIAN ART GUIDE

E-motional

On the occasion of Arte in Nuvola 2025, NM Contemporary is pleased to present at its booth the project E-motional.
E-motional expresses—through the diverse techniques of the participating artists—the warm/cold dichotomy across all aspects of existence.
In a difficult historical moment in which the concept of humanitas is subjected to violent strains and empathy turns into apathy, the exhibiting artists each seek, through their own language, a renewal of consciousness, emotion, and identity.

Within the seagull-wing layout, a central cube presents the work of Matteo Basilé, which rhythmically divides the two parallel and opposing spaces, reuniting them within a poetics of hybridity.

In the right wing, warmth is narrated through human and natural elements. On the exterior, a red wall painting by Roberto Maria Lino serves as the backdrop for his works created by sewing together scraps of clothing from unknown individuals, united through the act of hemming with needle and thread.
Inside, a flow of “Armoniche” by Antonio Barbieri—a series of small floating sculptures generated through the algorithmic processing and fusion of human emotional data with data from nature—joins a work by Matteo Sanna from the “Out of Here” series, executed in acrylic on canvas with 18,720 breaths by the artist, corresponding to the number of breaths in a single day of a man’s life.

In the left wing of the booth, cold is instead conveyed through the characteristic landscapes of Andrea Chiesi and Giacomo Costa, where nature and the urban environment intertwine in alternating cool tones; the concrete sculptures of Meletios Meletiou; and the Hololens mappings of architectural structures by Vincenzo Marsiglia. On the outer wall, Davide D’Elia has created a blue iris horizon in anti-fouling paint, onto which two works from his “Neville Brody” series are installed. These pieces evoke a five-dimensional anti-de Sitter space in which elementary particles are located on adimensional branes, harmoniously blending warm and cool tones—signature of his work—into a quantum representation of totality.

Completing the exhibition path, symmetrical yet opposite, are two vases—one in each section—by Matteo Sanna from the “Fragili fraintendimenti” series. Created over the past seven years using ceramic powder and subjected to an act of physical destruction and reconstruction, they recount the emotional resilience of the individual over time and experience.
