EMANUELE MARCHETTI – MY BODY TALES // MY BODY IS

Starting Sunday, December 1, bar.lina is proud to host the first solo exhibition of artist Emanuele Marchetti, MY BODY TALES // MY BODY IS, curated by Andrea Acocella and promoted within the framework of DRAG ME UP – Art For Inclusion “IMAGINED FUTURES” by Ondadurto Teatro.

THE EXHIBITION – MY BODY TALES // MY BODY IS is a photographic narrative by artist Emanuele Marchetti, who uses over 100 Polaroid photographs to explore the body of a young gay man from a provincial background, creating an intimate and personal story. Marchetti reflects on past choices, both right decisions and missed opportunities driven by fear. The project sheds light on the challenges of self-acceptance and the struggle for acceptance by others. Recurring themes in this visual narrative include the persistent sense of inadequacy and the constant fear of being judged or discovered for what he has hidden. Through his Polaroids, Marchetti offers a deep and sincere look into the complexities of identity and the internal battle to find one’s place in the world, culminating in self-acceptance.

THE FESTIVAL – DRAG ME UP – Art For Inclusion

The subtitle “IMAGINED FUTURES” reflects the artistic direction of Karma B and Margò Paciotti, leading the fifth edition of Rome’s drag and queer performing arts festival. In previous editions, the festival has been praised by audiences and critics alike, showcasing the work of numerous contemporary artists while crossing linguistic and performative boundaries to address social and artistic issues. Today, it is more vital than ever to claim and occupy spaces for narrating and celebrating possible and existing identities and stories. Together, we can imagine a world where stereotypes and prejudices are overcome through intergenerational, intercultural, and diverse dialogues. DRAG ME UP – Art For Inclusion seeks to create a safe space where everyone can feel comfortable.

This initiative, promoted by Roma Capitale – Department of Culture, is the winner of the biennial public call “Culture in Movement 2023-2024,” managed by the Department of Cultural Activities in collaboration with LEA and SIAE.

Artist (Terracina, 1988) – Born in Terracina in 1988, Emanuele Marchetti has been living and working in Rome since 2017. Fascinated by tarot and esotericism from an early age, he believes in the power of actions and words to influence events. Recently, his research has focused on the body as a “container” of sensations, exploring the many forms they take and seeking a complete synthesis between form and photography. He shoots with a Polaroid Now+ Gen2 and a Polaroid Autofocus 600. Instagram: @i_m.lost
