Serena Gandini – Archivio giallo

Studiolo 77 is pleased to present Archivio giallo, the first solo exhibition by Serena Gandini. Within her research, centered on the self-portrait as a practice of observation and construction of the self, the artist creates works in which this gesture becomes a tool for investigating identity and reflecting on the social and cultural context. The images take shape as spaces of construction, where the body and clothing act as critical elements in redefining aesthetic codes and internalized models. The exhibition presents a selection of these works.

For some time, Serena Gandini has been questioning the role of photography as a tool for observing and constructing identity. The artist re-photographs and reworks prints, transforming them into active, painterly surfaces in which the body appears as “constructed,” redefined within new formal structures and traversed by recurring elements, including yellow, which emerges from an internal perceptual dimension.

The exhibition also features her first site-specific installation, Celle di intimità: Camerino I, developed in dialogue with the exhibition space. The installation takes the form of an essential structure housing a transparent yellow organza curtain, through which the artist creates a domestic space that evokes the intimate dimension of a fitting room.

Serena Gandini (Rome, 2001) lives and works in Rome. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome. Her research explores the body, clothing, and internalized cultural codes through practices of self-portraiture and photographic reworking.
