things that will never become objects
Caterina Silva ha un percorso ormai lungo alle spalle. Un percorso che è stato alimentato costantemente dal desiderio di vagliare le possibilità e i limiti del linguaggio nella definizione e nella rappresentazione del reale. Entro i confini fisici dell’opera d’arte, siano essi quelli di una tela, di un’azione performativa, di uno spazio virtuale, ciò che le è sempre interessato è stato verificare se è possibile pronunciare una parola senza che questa determini il destino del suo oggetto, se è possibile descrivere senza giudicare, narrare senza condizionare, raffigurare senza chiudere la realtà entro un’immagine fissa, univoca, data. Verificare, in sostanza, se il linguaggio, mezzo indispensabile per orientarci nel mondo, possa essere usato senza diventare strumento di dominio e di potere sull’altro. I quadri raccolti in questa nuova mostra alla Galleria di Eugenia Delfini sono ideati partendo, di volta in volta, da elementi di realtà che Caterina rielabora e “manomette”, come dice lei stessa, allo scopo di attivare un processo di risignificazione. things that will never become objects, il titolo scelto per la mostra, parla di questo processo di manomissione, in cui si definisce uno spazio liminale, in cui le “cose”, appunto, non diventano “oggetti”, il dato reale non è definito dalla sua funzione, l’oggetto non aderisce all’interpretazione di un soggetto. L’essenza si dà attraverso una sottrazione e un’assenza.
